Ahhhh… something has been missing from my life as of late- and I think my blog is what it is! It feels good to be back!
So, I’ve been back to work for a few months now. Abby is thriving in daycare, and I am slowly adjusting to the role of working Mom. We have had a very stressful summer- real estate stress. I’ll go into that in another posting, not really feeling like hashing all of that out right now.
A few weeks back I took in Barb Stegemann at a Chamber function. Had never even heard her name before this event, and she has quickly become one of my newest role models. What a fantastic lady! I loved every second of her talk. I was quick to buy her book afterwards, and I am so glad I did. I can’t put it down! The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen is the book, and it is amazing. Any woman, from any walk of life, should read this book.
I haven’t finished reading it yet, but I am learning so much already, and am beginning to reflect and think critically on so many areas of my life. Social networking is where my head is right now. Stegemann writes of how men have these brilliant social networks with CEOs, business contacts and so on. She stresses the importance of women having these same social networks. She says in the book “If you are able to come up with at least 10-15 male CEOs from the business and/or political world, then you’re in” (page 45) I couldn’t think of 10-15 that I know. Time to change that. My goal for the next year is to network as much as possible and force myself to ‘put myself out there.’ We all feel awkward at these networking events, but in the words of Stegemann “We will no longer be living in 100 years – so who cares what someone thinks of you?” (page 46)
Stay tuned for more ramblings and revelations on this book!
